State Unclaimed Property

Finding state unclaimed property is as easy as finding the website for your particular state and searching for unclaimed property in your name. Normally the first place to start is the unclaimed.org website. There you can find links to searching multiple state unclaimed money databases.

This may take some persistence but it could pay off in the long run. State unclaimed property will not magically fall in in your lap.You have to search for unclaimed property which you may be owed. While this takes time and there is no guarantee you may have some type of unclaimed property which you are entitled to, its sort of fun to look and dream of some long lost relative who may have left you millions. Some states have adopted a stature of trying to find people who are owed unclaimed property, there are several which will hold auctions and auction off any unclaimed property. Florida is one of these states that will auction off your property, so if you think you may have some unclaimed property in Florida you may want to get on that soon.

Personally I have not located any rich relatives, but I did use an unclaimed property search to get back a hold of some Walmart stock which had been sent to the unclaimed property bureau. Some how when we moved( which is most of the reason for unclaimed property) the stock broker who held our stock did not get the change of address entered into their system and then when I asked them where my stock was they said it was at the state unclaimed property office. It was a little of a pain to get the stocks sent back to us from the unclaimed property office, but it was not too difficult to complete all the paperwork for our unclaimed stock. This was not a lot of money, but it was over 3 thousand dollars and I did not want to lose it. So check out your state unclaimed property office as you may have some unclaimed property there waiting for you to claim.
